Meet the Staff

We heard from you that you would like to get to know the AIA Virginia staff a little better, so here we go.

This month we highlight our newest staff member, Olivia Jennings. Olivia joins us as our Communications Coordinator in charge of event promotion, emails, websites, social media, media relations and so much more! You can say hello to Olivia at ojennings@aiava.org.

Olivia Jennings

Where did you go to college and what did you study?
I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Media Studies.

What is the last book you read?
The last book I read (or actually reread for about the 754th time) was “Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl,” Carrie Brownstein’s memoir.

What is your favorite thing to do to relax?
I love a good face mask, and some laid-back yoga is always good if I have time to get to a class.

Who or what inspires you?
Mostly really creative, powerhouse funny ladies like Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Carrie Brownstein, Kate McKinnon, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. In another life (where I was funny), I would be a comedian/television writer.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
Raw vegan lasagna at Plant in Asheville, NC. It sounds gross, but it’s really good, I swear!

What color crayon would you be?
I would either be a cool, tropical ocean-y blue or a golden-ish yellow. (Can you tell I’m really excited for summer?)

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
South of the James farmer’s market on Saturday mornings when it’s warm! Nothing I love like a good bagel and fresh produce. Also, a nice hike if I have time to get out of the city.

What is one thing on your bucket list?
Cross-country road trip!

What’s the best gift you have ever received?
My best friend in high school gave me a Madewell denim shirt that has been my favorite shirt for five or six years – it definitely helped make me the Canadian tuxedo queen I am today.

What’s the one TV show you never miss?
Sorry, I can’t pick just one! “Portlandia” (if I haven’t made it clear yet, I love Carrie Brownstein) and “Broad City.”

White, dark, or milk chocolate?
Dark but a fun dark – with sea salt or caramel or something to spice it up!
