You are responsible for generating conceptual designs for projects of various scales and sizes, leading the vision for technical design, implementing sustainable design strategies, and executing construction documents that bring the project to life. As an Architect, you are expected to build and maintain relationships with the design team and clients to achieve consistent, successful results.

Skills and Role Requirements

• Professional degree and active licensure as an Architect
• Proven experience leading a team through design and construction to project completion
• Strong design and technical skills
• The ability to communicate design intent effectively through sketching and digital production
• A collaborative mindset and flexibility to work in a multidisciplinary design environment
• Fluency in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience collaborating with Lumion, Enscape, and Sketchup
• Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
• Clear presentation, graphic, written, and verbal communication skills

A Project Leader is a leadership position in the firm in which a person helps define and carry out project vision with Directors and Partners. Project Leaders move a project forward, lead an internal team, coordinate with consultants, and work through all items agreed upon in the contract. They establish relationships with the client and other stakeholders and consultants, together with Directors and Partners, with increasing responsibility as projects progress. Project Leaders develop and mentor those who are a part of their project team(s). They may work on multiple projects at VIA and are involved with employee recruitment and project acquisition efforts.
Beyond what is listed below, we look for candidates with experience in the following areas: Strategy, Programming, Urban Design, and Master Planning. Experience in all these areas is not a requirement, but experience in more than one is preferred.

The Project Leader is exposed to various work methods which are focused on the following core actions:

• Thinking: content generation of design through various mediums
• Doing: production of drawings, presentations, and general design production tasks
• Interacting: participation and leadership in meetings, project discussions, employee development and studio life

About your experience:

• Professional degree in architecture
• At least 7-10 years of professional design experience, with at least 2 years of project and team
  management
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Adobe CS, MS Office Suite, Teams, Bluebeam
• Successful experience in a leadership role on large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects
• Exceptional design sensibility, talent and rigor
• Experience through all phases of design (concept design through construction administration)
• Experience working with a range of consultants and large project teams, including environmental,
  landscape, civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers.

Urban Designer
Work Program Architects | Norfolk, VA

We are looking for a new addition to the WPA team. You will be working with a fun group of architects, interior designers, urban designers, graphic designers, and industrial designers in an open, collaborative environment. We have a beautiful studio at Assembly and can’t wait to share it with you. We love working together in person, but also offer a hybrid work environment complete with a work-from-home setup to provide flexibility.

We are a local firm working on regional projects with national attention – St. Paul’s Transformation, City of Norfolk flood protection, Missing Middle and ADU plan books, and master planning for the Elizabeth River Trail. Our focus is mixed-income, mixed-use communities, coastal resilience in the face of sea level rise, and proactive changes to zoning and streetscape standards to make safe, comfortable, walkable communities. Preferred Qualifications

• Accredited design degree (architecture, urban design, or landscape architecture)

• Comfortable listening, presenting, and sketching out ideas in front of a crowd
