This year, the AIA’s national Practice Management Knowledge Community (PMKC) is partnering with the Virginia Society AIA to develop a series of presentations at Architecture Exchange East. The PMKC focuses on collecting and disseminating information on the business of architecture.  They’ll bring this expertise to bear in their collaboration with the Society’s Professional Excellence team in the development of the series.

The PMKC focuses on a wide variety of business practices and trends including human resources management; integrated practice and delivery methods; knowledge/innovation management; marketing and business development; leadership development; financial management; global practices; operations management; ownership transitions; project management; quality management; risk management; strategic alliances; strategic planning; and student and emerging professional development. They initiate programs and provide content and guidance to the AIA on programs and policies relating to a wide variety of business practices and trends. They also work to develop new, more effective means of discovering, gathering, organizing and disseminating practice management knowledge among architects and their strategic partners.

“We’re very pleased to be working with the Practice Management KC to add this rich new dimension to ArchEx,” says Wayne Conners, the Society’s Director of Professional Excellence. “We’re working together to create a provocative, inspirational program of seminars that will challenge existing paradigms about practicing architecture in the coming decade.”

Architecture Exchange East is the mid-Atlantic’s premier conference and expo for architects. The three-day conference features over 60 educational sessions, spectacular behind-the-scenes architectural tours, engaging special events, and over 125 vendors in the ArchEx Exhibit Hall. It will be held Nov. 2–4, 2011, in Richmond at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Registration opens Aug. 26 at www.archex.net.
