$20.00Lunch Seminar Series: Overview of Wood Building Design & Durable Wood Structures
The presentations in this seminar provide a review of allowable uses and best design practices associated with wood-frame construction, as well as specific considerations for durable wood structures. Following a brief discussion of wood science, the first presentation covers structural wood design for vertical (gravity) loads, common wood-frame lateral-force-resisting systems, shear walls and architectural considerations such as fire protection, construction types, and building envelope. With an emphasis on building longevity, the second presentation covers moisture management techniques, preservative treatment specification, and details for controlling termites.
